AJ Lucas guitars is the name of UK luthier Adrian Lucas’s company making wonderful handmade acoustic and electric guitars.
I met Adrian Lucas at an RMMGA gathering in Buxton in 2005, and have met him many times since at guitar gatherings all over the country. Adrian is really good example of how seeming to be everywhere is good for business.
Not only will you find Adrian at gatherings organised by guitar enthusiasts, but also at trade shows and festivals. I myself am an example of how that road warrior kind of marketing can work for guitar makers, because I did finally succumb to the siren call of an AJ Lucas Guitars 12-fret Pavilion Sweep at the RMMGA gathering in 2016.
Adrian loves to build with woods found in the British Isles, particularly reclaimed woods from furniture, doors, church pews, whatever! He has a wonderful Pergola model made out of some beautiful mahogany that was once a piano. It was lovingly given the name Wolfgang at an acoustic guitar gathering in Halifax and a song written about it by the wonderful Paul Graham.
Podcast
I sat with Adrian for half an hour at the 2018 RMMGA gathering and we spoke about guitars. Tune in and have a listen.
